Matt Smithson, originally from North Myrtle Beach S.C, graduated from the College of Charleston in 2003 with a B.A in Studio Art. He is now pursuing a MFA in Broadcast Design and Motion Graphics from Savannah College of Art and Design. In addition to exhibiting work in the gallery setting, Matt has obtained various awards in motion graphic competitions, most notably a Gold in the Student On-Air category of the 2005 Promax and BDA Awards, and Finalist for Stash Magazine's 2005 GSAA Student Competition.
Each work of art is a personal experience of observations in physicality, in interaction with subconscious words and imagery. Matt uses dreams as a key source of subconscious imagery, which he uses to create surrealistic mixed media compositions that express and filter past and present experiences.
