Tobias Sternberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1973. Before moving to London in 2002 to study art at Goldsmith's College, he had time to study a bit of philosophy, history, and creative writing, and to pursue work as a carpenter to finance his artistic and philosophical experiments. He decided to move because he felt the Swedish art world wasn't the right place for his ironic and irreverent art, and it must be admitted that the Swedish art world agreed.
Tobias has shown short videos and sculptures at festivals and alternative artspaces around the world, including EXiS in South Korea, the Kansk Video Festival in Siberia, ME in Rio de Janerio, Saison Vid éo in France, and in galleries in England, Japan, and Scotland. He has held residencies at the National Sculpture Factory in Cork and Cove Park in Scotland. In 2006 he had a solo show of scultpural work at Cornexchange Gallery in Edinburgh, and participated in the 2nd edition of the Young Artist's Biennial in Bucharest. |
